~ If you’re an American there is a pretty good chance you have thrown away perfectly good food. A new study from the National Resource Defense Council found that 9 in 10 Americans at some point have confused the meaning of the “Use by” and “Best before” dates on packaging and mistaken them as spoiled. A quarter of respondents in the study said they never ever use food after this date. Altogether it was concluded that this all contributes to the 40% of US food production that goes to waste. Yet according to these odds many of you reading this are only just now discovering the real meaning of these “expiration dates”.
